P:ear (Project: education, art and recreation) is a mentoring organization for homeless youth in Northwest Portland. It has been my good fortune to work with this wonderful organization, beginning in January 2016. With P:ear youth, we built a 15-ft Irish currach-style boat starting with gathering hazel rods to attaching and shrinking the skin to waterproofing the fabric. The finished boat was a collaborative work of art that sold at auction in late April as a fundraiser for P:ear.

I hope to work with P:ear to develop other projects, which may include guiding youth to build boats for sale in the Portland community.

Watch the video and view the gallery of photos which document the boat in construction.
